My first name is Arturo (Arthur in English), but anyone who
knows me knows that I go by Turi. Turi is the short version for Arturo. I only
use the name Arthur in school. I got my name from my grandfather. My mother
named me after him, because my grandfather had four girls and no boys. She
wanted to make him happy and boy was he ever. Words can’t express how proud I am
of my name, one reason being named after my grandpa who went to hell and back
to put his family in the U.S. Another reason is that I hardly meet people with
my name. I feel like you got to be bold represent a name that isn’t used as
often as others. With the people I have met with my name I found to be very
nice and easy going. The name Arthur does not really give in inside of my heritage.
I would not change my name for anything the reason being that I have made a reputation
with my nickname “Turi”. The best way to describe this by repeating what my
friends say when they hear my name, it brings joy to people. I always got
people playing with my name making their own versions to call me by. I do not
mind at all. I always make sure people remember my name and the other way
around, because people will like and respect you more if you just own their
name.
The second I want to talk about is my last name BriceƱo. This
name is special for me because it comes from Manzanillo, Mexico. Out here in California
I see just the English version which is Briseno. We did not want to change our
name, because we are proud of our heritage. In Manzanillo it is a beautiful
tourist city located next to the beach. When I think of my name I always think
of the city and its beauty and value. More often than not people do often pronounce
it wrong, they ask where I’m from or they ask how you spell. Growing up it
would bug me bad but with time I got over it and saw it as a everyday thing. I
would not trade my name for anything as well, because it kept it in its orginal
spelling, it comes from a beautiful city and it stops people enough to force
them to learn it.
This last name I hardly use and it wasn’t until about two
years ago where I really started to use more and more of my name Danny. I never
really used this name, because I went by Turi and it was my name middle. I
started using this name more around people who I met and in that moment I realized
I would not be meeting them again at all or I’m too lazy to go over the process
of explaining my name and getting them to pronounce it. It’s a good name to
have when I just want to change he pace of things.
It’s great you carry your grandfather name proudly. I love the name Arturo because you can use so many different nicknames.
ReplyDeleteI think it's amazing that your first name was handed down to you from a family member you have such respect for. It's also admirable that your family has kept to the traditional spelling of your last name.
ReplyDeleteI have never come across anyone with the same last name as you Arthur. It's very unique and it's cool that you didn't change the traditional spelling.
ReplyDeleteI love that your mom thought about her dad when she had a son. I bet your grandfather is super proud of you.
ReplyDeleteIt was very sweet of your mom to name you after your grandfather. I could only imagine how happy your grandfather must of been to find out you were named after him.
ReplyDeleteI see how your name can be difficult to pronounce to some people. I found it funny you say your name is Danny to people you only meet once.
ReplyDeleteTo carry your grandfathers name and have it as a tribute to what he did for your family is an awesome thing. Family pride is everything.
ReplyDeleteYou should be proud of your name, because it is unique, but there is nothing wrong with going by nick names or names that is comfortable for you. But never forget your strong name, it is a good name.
